TCL QM8 Mini-LED TV Review: The Brightest TV We’ve Ever Reviewed

TCL QM8 QLED TV, which is TCL’s top offering, has attracted attention as a flagship television in 2023. With a wide choice of screen sizes up to 98 inches, the powerful Google TV smart platform, and high brightness levels, this TV offers a lot to be desired.

However, competition in the mid-range TV segment has also heated up in recent years, so there are several other TVs that offer comparable, if not more, features than the TCL QM8.

The QM8 is produced in four different sizes to suit each living room configuration. The following is the list along with prices in IDR currency:

While these prices may change, the TCL QM8 can be found for less at some online retailers.

TCL QM8 TV design

The TCL QM8 TV has a design with a minimalist bezel to maximize screen display space. On the back, the TV has a matte black look with a textured vertical stripe pattern, and in the center is a prominent Ultra-Bass subwoofer. This TV can also be mounted on a wall with a 300 x 400mm VESA hole.

TCL QM8 TV ports:

All ports on the TCL QM8 are on the right side of the TV, including the Ethernet port, cable and antenna coaxial, USB, A/V in, headset, S/PDIF optical audio out, and HDMI port. There are four HDMI ports, two of which use the HDMI 2.0 standard with a bandwidth of 60Hz, one uses HDMI 2.1 which supports 4K at 120Hz, and one supports 4K up to 144Hz when used with games that support Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).

TCL QM8 TV performance

The TCL QM8 combines Mini LED technology for more precise brightness control and quantum dots for improved contrast and color. TCL also offers High Brightness Ultra Direct LED Backlight which is claimed to increase brightness.

However, despite its high brightness, the TCL QM8 does not achieve perfect black levels like OLED TVs, so some visual effects may be less sharp.

Additionally, this TV also has a lower upscaling rate compared to some of its competitors, and limited viewing angles. However, for gaming, the TCL QM8 has low input lag and an HDMI 2.1 port that supports gaming features such as VRR and ALLM.

TCL QM8 TV Smart Features

This TV runs the Google TV smart platform, which offers powerful search and an easy-to-navigate interface. You can access a variety of apps and streaming services, as well as connect mobile devices with Google Cast and AirPlay 2. This TV also supports voice assistants such as Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit.

TCL QM8 TV remote

The TCL QM8 TV remote has easy-to-access buttons, including buttons for popular apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and Apple TV. This remote also has a backlight for use in dark conditions.

Overall, the TCL QM8 is a TV that offers high brightness and good gaming performance with Google TV’s powerful smart platform. However, there are some compromises when it comes to black levels and sound quality. With a competitive price, this TV could be a good choice especially for users with a lot of ambient light in their living room.
